Battery

Unfortunately, the most important component on our electric bike happens to be the most expensive, the battery. With so many options in the market we weighed the pros and cons to pick the perfect one for Motiv. Sure, there are batteries ranging cheaper and more expensive than ours, but we wanted trusted quality at a fair price. This brought us to a Lithium Ion Polymer battery from Samsung. This is one of the most stable lithium systems that would allow either a 36 volt or a 48 volt battery to be used on our bicycles. All batteries have both a voltage and amp-hour rating. If you multiply the two together, you get watt-hours. Watt-hours is an objective measurement of the actual amount of energy stored in a battery. On average, you can expect to use between 12-24 watt-hours per mile. This number can change because of terrain, rider weight, weather, speed, and most importantly how much you pedal.

We offer 3 battery options that will cover any rider’s preference. See the chart below. It is difficult to diagnose the exact distance or speed that a battery can output because there are several variables to consider. Of these; weight, terrain, weather and to some extent even temperature. We have calculated that the range is roughly 2 miles (distance) per amp hour (ah).

We have 3 batteries that our customers can choose from depending on their preference and riding style.

Battery Type Watt Hours Distance Speed Usage
48v11ah 528 *18-22miles **20-25mph Our standard powerful battery
48v16ah "LR" 768 *28-30miles **20-25mph “Longer Range” battery for commuting or "LR" leisure riding
48v21ah "SLR" 1008 *40-42miles **20-25mph "Super Long Range" for commuting or "SLR" leisure riding
*Rider Weight, Rider Input and Terrain Contingent

** May exceed the federal speed limit of 20MPH

Lithium-ion

Our bikes i powered by Samsung Lithium Ion Cells, 48 volt battery, depending on the option taken at time of purchase. The battery’s range depends on several factors, mainly, weight, terrain, and weather and to some extent, temperature. We calculated that the range is roughly 2 miles per amp hour (ah). We have 3 batteries that our customers can choose from depending on their preference and riding style.authorities for directions on proper disposal or recycling.

Recharging battery packs

Our batteries plug into any standard 110 volt wall outlet with a charger is provided. The batteries can be charged on and off your ebike. Charging can take 2 to 5 hours depending on how much the battery is depleted.

Maintaining battery packs

We tell our customers to charge the battery after every use that way the bike is always ready to be ridden. If you are planning on not using your Motiv for an extensive amount of time, fully charge your battery to its full capacity and store it in cool, dry place. Make sure you charge the battery to full capacity every 3 months to prolong its life.

Life of the battery pack

You can expect your battery to last about 2-4 years.Lithium batteries usually don’t just stop working altogether, what happens is they gradually lose their capacity over time.
